Purpose Statement
The Student Support Teacher is responsible for implementing the student support program at West Bay Christian Academy. This position works with staff and families in identifying needs and academic support for students with academic service plans, and other needs.
Reporting Relationships
Reports to the Academic Dean and is a member of the Academic Leadership Team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

Assist with implementation of the student support program at WBCA from evaluation of referral criteria through to the development of a service plan as needed.

Maintain necessary documentation and records ensuring confidentiality of student information.

Develop service plans with interventions, accommodations, and systems for monitoring progress to support student success.

Collaborate with school staff to ensure appropriate instructional interventions are implemented

Provide student support within regular classroom settings as well as pull out services.

Identify appropriate support and accommodations for exceptional learners.

Serve as a case manager for students who have a service plan, holding annual meetings and communicating with teachers and parents as appropriate.

Perform any other duties related to student support services as requested by the Academic Dean and/or Head of School.
Minimum Requirements:

Committed Christian, active in a local church.

Must possess a bachelor’s degree in special education from an accredited institution or an equivalent combination of education and experience that would demonstrate the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Experience in supporting students’ academic needs in mathematics, reading, and phonological-based instruction.

Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and other outside agencies or local school districts.
Success in this role will be evidenced when:

Students are experiencing academic growth evidenced through daily classroom work and progress monitoring.

The Student Support Teacher, classroom teachers, and parents are collaborating and working well together on behalf of each student.

Responsibilities for this role are being met at an adequate level as demonstrated through the teacher development process.
